Some recent layouts for calls, challenges and contests.

NEW

This is another layout that was done for a call at Scrapbook Trends. It wasn't picked up, but I'm glad that I've documented my family's favorite recipe!

Serendipity Scrapbooks recently held a weekend crop with lots of challenges all to
remind us of breast cancer awareness month. This first layout was for a challenge
about Princess Diana; using words from a quote of hers. I received a "Pick of the Day" award for this layout 10/27/09 at Serendipity.

We were also to create a candy bar wrapper using the same papers.

This layout was for a challenge using a poem by Maya Angelou.

This final layout is for a contest at Memory Making Crafts (a Halloween layout).

I needed a little push to work on some layouts, so I checked the latest calls at Scrapbook Trends and did these two Easter layouts to submit for the March issue. I
don't expect them to get picked up, but at least I finished a couple!
The first layout is with a picture of our Malamute, Shiloh when she was a puppy (about 75 pounds ago) and the second is with a picture of our granddaughter on Easter with her basket during the (indoor) egg hunt.

Some more challenges

I am having so much fun (and getting some layouts done at the same time) doing challenges this summer! The first one is for Memory Making Crafts. This one is based on this sketch.

The final layout is another one for a challenge at Serendipity Scrapbooks. The requirements for the challenge are to use a shaped background paper, some hand cutting, some hand or machine stitching, and layering. The picture is of our Malamute, Quinson, who was only with us for four years.

Where did summer go?

NEW

Where has summer gone?? The grandkids' baseball and soccer are finished, next week is our county fair and school starts on the first! I haven't had time to take even a long weekend away. Hopefully we will have a few days in September.
I have gotten a few layouts finished though. This first layout was for a challenge at Serendipity Scrapbooks which required fringing. I fringed the round flowers and the strips in the lower, left.

I did some stamping on this layout. The birds and the wispy flowers are stamped and some are cut out and added with foam tape.

The next layout was also done for a challenge at Serendipity Scrapbooks. For this one we were to create a border using non-typical scrapbooking items. I used some ephemera and images from Altered Pages for mine.

This final layout was another challenge at Serendipity Scrapbooks. We were to create a layout similar to one that was shown which used a LOT of hand cutting and layering.
The inspiration layout can be seen here.......

And here is my take on it:

Finally, I altered a puzzle piece for a friend. This was a large, floor puzzle piece. Her theme was freestyle (anything goes) using the colors of pink/mauve/black and a lime/sage green.

Some things I've been working on.......

NEW

I've found a little time to work on a couple of cards and some layouts between the
grandkids' baseball and soccer games. The first is a card that I made with the leftover papers from the Prima layout that is in the previous post.

This second item is a quick card I made for a baby shower. The text is a sticker. I put both pieces of colored cardstock through my Sizzix with the Cuttlebug Swiss Dots folder.

This two page layout shows how we transformed what was a screened in storage area under one bedroom in our house into a four season hot tub room.

This layout is of my great grandparents homestead. I used a challenge that a friend had on a blog for which she is a design team member which included lots of fussy cut work and layering. I've added two close ups to try to show the dimension with this layout.

This last layout is of my grandson, Hunter on his first day of preschool. I didn't take the photos, so you can't blame me for the "antlers" it looks like he's wearing in the large photo.

I had time.............

I was surprised that I had time to work on a couple of layouts over the weekend. This one is a couple of old school photos.I used some Daisy D's papers and punched
flowers from Rusty Pickle and Creative Imaginations papers and a Scenic Route arrow.

This layout was done with a new paper pack by Prima. I really like how it turned out!

A few layouts done in May

NEW

I am finally getting around to posting a few layouts I finished in May before our re-do on my scraproom. The first one is a picture of me with my grandson, Levi, which was taken after a day at our county fair (thus the reason for the frazzled hairdo). We were watching an evening performance of John Michael Montgomery and Levi couldn't stay awake.
You can click on any of the pictures to enlarge them so you can see more detail.

The next two layouts are two of my grandsons' school pictures from 2003. Yeah; I'm just a little behind on my photos! lol

Titanic exhibit

My oldest daughter and two of her three boys took me to see the Titanic Exhibit in Milwaukee on Mother's Day. It was a wonderful exhibit and if you are even a little bit interested in the history of that fateful ship, I encourage you to see the exhibit if it comes to a sight near you. We weren't able to get photos inside the exhibit, but they take a photo of your group before you enter and at the end you are able to chose one of several backgrounds (we selected the grand staircase) and purchase copies. I was able to use it and our "boarding passes" and some photos I found on the internet of items that are in the exhibit to create this three page layout. The papers I used are some VERY old ones I've had for a long time. And I don't even know who they are by because there was no identification on them. But they were perfect for these pages (they look like rusty old metal).
I used two of the boarding passes on the last page so you can see both sides. Each of us received one upon entering and the pass tells the statistics of one of the passengers that was on the ship (age, sex, married or single, adult or child, which class they were traveling in, etcl). At the end of the exhibit you could find your
"passenger" to see if they died that day or were one of the survivors. I also stitched a clear pocket onto the second page to hold the brochure that we received.

Where have I been???

NEW

I know it's been AGES since I've posted anything. I was surprised that some people even NOTICED! Well, I can finally show what I've been doing and why I haven't had
any new art to post.
We are replacing windows in three rooms of our house; including one in my scraproom.
Since I had to move most of my storage out of the room to do that, I decided to do a
complete makeover. I pulled everything out of the room (which you will see was quite a job in itself when you look at how much stuff I have in the room) and paint first. Since the color of most of my storage accessories is a lime green, I decided to go with turquoise for the walls. After painting, we put in a new laminate floor. My hubby and I did this ourselves. We were surprised at how easy and quick it was once we figured out what we were doing. Of course, when the flooring was in all of the old baseboards looked so shabby that we decided to replace those too! And finally we
put in the new window and then I was able to move everything back in. I've put the after pictures right below the before photos.

The black media tower just DIDN'T work any more! It was too wide for the spot for one thing, and everything else is white. I looked all over (internet, office supply stores, home improvement stores) and finally found this white cabinet in another room of the house!

I painted an old spice rack white and attached it to the wall in the closet to hold my paint bottles.

If you look closely, you'll see a framed layout below the large "S" on the wall by my desk. This layout is one that was published.

I hope you've enjoyed touring my new scraproom. I do want to put in track lighting yet, but that will have to wait for now.
Hopefully now I'll be able to start creating some new layouts and cards now and will post more often.

Easter card for The Pink Elephant challenge

NEW

Seems my only posts recently are my challenge items for The Pink Elephant each week.
LOL This week's challenge is to make something with an Easter theme. Since I was already in the process of making Easter cards, this one fit in perfectly. I tried a
couple of new things with this one. I used a brayer on which I dabbed shades of Martha Stewart green and blue inks and then brayered it onto a piece of white cardstock. I stamped the bunny on a separate piece of white cardstock and cut him out, adhering him with a piece of pop dot. The "Happy Easter" was stamped directly to the card with Versamark and embossed with a blue embossing powder. The tracks and
"boing, boing" were also stamped directly on the card. I added ribbon to this piece and then double matted the entire piece. A double flower and egg button finish it off.

Another Pink Elephant Challenge

NEW

This week's challenge at The Pink Elephant is to use a sketch by Robin Willis.

Here is my take on the sketch. I used WorldWin papers DoubleMates Orange Dream embossed with the Cuttlebug Perfectly Paisley folder, an image from Altered Pages, rhinestone brads from S.E.I. and crocheted lace.
